It is dusk on an autumn evening on the south side of the river thames, a few feet downstream from vauxhall bridge. Innumerable starlings have congregated in a murmuration underneath (in fact inside the fabric of) the bridge to noisily discuss the day before sleep. Overhead, cars and buses thump across the bridge panels, while small groups of city workers, nurses and spies head home or for drinks. All the while the river laps away as an unconscious heartbeat, and is churned up by the thrum of a passing riverboat.

Bird singing recorded at around 3:40 am with yinger bm 800 ldc-microphone in front of my open window, i had to add some noise reduction because of my computer fan with reafir (there isn't really much of that noise left, atleast if compared to original). You can also maybe hear ocassional space bar-click sound maybe twice, but it's still pretty useable clip in my opinion, i recorded this just to test my new microphone, and because i couldn't sleep because of the loud birds singing, and in revenge i recorded that with my shiny new yinger bm800. You are free to use this soundclip for both commercial and non-commercial audio and video work. File format: 16 bit/44. 1khz mono. Wav-file.

Wasn't intending to record this, but it was so intense i had to. I couldn't sleep with the 50mph winds hitting right outside the bedroom. Worst storm i've been through since moving to washington state in 1999. It came from the east through chinook pass. I was kind of expecting the roof to fly off. You can hear the flapping of a tarp covering my old mercedes right outside the window. The wind shredded part of the tarp. Also, the snow drift hitting the window. I used my yamaha pocketrak and edited in sony vegas adding two extra tracks. Please comment on what you may use it for. Thanks. :-).

One of my favorite summer and late-summer sounds. The night-hawk is the star of this recording. This recording was made around 9pm at night in mid-august and, even though i never could see this nighthawk, his calls pierced through the night-sky to let me know he was up there, somewhere, orbiting on the prowl for mosquitos and other insects. I have always loved this sound ever since i was a kid and going to sleep at night i felt comforted knowing that, like some circling fighter jet, the nighthawks would be on the job, plowing down the population of mosquitos, while i slept all night. Recording actually made in the parking lot of a major midwest university around 9pm at night on august 19th, 2014. Equipment: marantz pmd661 modified by oade brothers electronics, beyerdynamic me58 microphone. My record volume was 7.

Indonesian maids singing in the park -. Every sunday in the streets and parks of hong kong - scores of maids meet up to enjoy their one day off a week -- they are temporary residents of hong kong and no matter how long they stay here for they must return home - there was a case last year of a lady who having worked here for 25 years wasnt allowed to stay. . These migrants mostly live with their chinese employers - who treat them very much like slaves, working long hard days, some of whome get to sleep on kitchen or bathroom floors. . . They arent wealthy so on their days off can't afford to go restaurants an cinemas and any way they are all here to earn money to send back to their families and children, since they cant afford much they tend to gather in groups in to dance and sing, or sit and eat play cards. I just so happened past a 'street' party in victoria park and took a recording as it sounded very exotic and all the people seemed happy in way i couldnt describe - altho i feel this recording is actually a little sad?. .

Autumn is a time for slowing down and allowing yourself time for reflection and contemplation. The accomplishments and mistakes from the previous year. Especially if you make it a habit of getting out all year long and exploring nature, autumn can be a much-needed change in sensory soundscape. . . . After a busy spring listening to the many different warblers which come to visit and a busy summer immersed in the busy sounds of life----both human and natural----autumn's subtle, quiet muted soundscape can be almost like a re-birth for the ears and the soul. The insects, which had taken over center stage since august, are still singing---though now with a quieter volume and a more even sleep and though-inducing tempo. . . . . . . . Brisk winds from the north can be heard more clearly now----swishing, rustling the weedy, tan edges of fields. . . . . Hinting at the bite of much colder masses of canadian air waiting on deck for their turn in the months of november, december and january. . . I made this recording on the evening of october 4th 2014 at the edge of a field which was bordered by thick stands of oaks and pines of a major national forest. . . . . I couldn't help but pretend i was linus waiting in the pumpkin patch for the great pumpkin to arrive!. While working on another audiobook, i decided to make this sound. It's 38 voices, each saying different things, panned around and mixed together, creating a "wall of sound" that speaks like 38 radio channels at once. Recorded with a zoom h2 via usb into ardour2. Mixed and exported to flac with ardour2. Ps: it's all polish (with some possible german shout-outs), but the amount of noise makes it almost completely incomprehensible. Only a few words that are being yelled in a different voice can be understood. No sound repeats here, no recycling - every voice and every second of this recording is unique. Yes, it required quite a lot of work to record so much talking in quality! it's almost an entire audiobook squeezed into 5 minutes. Strangely (or not) listening to this makes my mind rest, because the noise blocks all other sounds from the environment - making my mind free of stimulation, allowing for sleep-like rest state. The signal is so much modulated that it appears to be not modulated at all - like static you get from a fm radio of you tune it wrong. The brain receives less data when you listen to this, than when you sit in a room hearing even faint (but distinct) noises from outside, other rooms, other people or yourself. This is sound masking in action. A very interesting psychoacoustic property of human hearing. Also: this is an interesting material to study of my voice's spectral energy distribution while speaking (as opposed to singing). As you can see using the spectrogram view, most energy is present in the band below 600 hz.

Not a particular city, like paris or chicago, but the events of the dream happen in a setting which includes tall buildings and crowded streets and views of the sun setting behind a busy skyline. One time, while having such a dream, i was standing on an arcing bridge over a body of water like a river or canal. The late afternoon sun was to my left, and the warmth of the sunlight contrasted with the cool breeze off the water. As i looked across the curving expanse of water, i was mesmerized by the bright reflections of the sun on the water, on the glass of the windows, across this expansive space. I realized with a start that i recognized a cluster of buildings across the way. I had seen them before, in another dream. In that dream i had been a different person. Rather, in most all of my dreams i am in some way myself, but entangled in a moment from some other life, surrounded by characters and pursuing concerns that are alien to my waking being. In that moment, in this dream, i came to understand that all my dreams that happen in a city are happening in the same city, the same geography and architecture holding dozens of episodic lives i may have between sleeping and waking.
